Protected: Interior Systems Mechanic – Work Employment Readiness for Carpentry Program

About This Program

The Work Employment Readiness for Carpentry Program (WERC) offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in starting their journey towards a career in a UBC represented trade. This program provides four weeks of in-class training, and four weeks of on-the-job placement with an UBC signatory contractors. The program includes learning opportunities related to UBC represented trades such as General Carpentry, Interior Systems, Flooring, or Welding. This program also includes health and safety training required for construction site access in Ontario.

Program Outline

Weeks 1-4: In-class training at the training centre (includes health and safety certifications).
Weeks 5-8: Work placement with UBC signatory contractor

Participant Supports

The program is funded by the Skills Development Fund; this provides a 100% free opportunity for participants. Participants will receive all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and a tool kit. A weekly stipend is available for those ineligible to receive Employment Insurance (EI).

Eligibilty

All participants must be a resident of Ontario and be legally authorized to work in Canada. For participants to start a formal apprenticeship at the end of this program they must have proof of their completion of grade 10 in full.
